Planning the trip to KC.
Hey everyone. I guess I’m in charge of organizing this trip to KC, so I’m going to start making arrangements for tours. It’s going to be a one day affair, on Friday, March 5th. So far I’m supposed to contact the following:
Hallmark
Kansas City Star
If you want to make changes it needs to happen pretty quick. In the next day or two, I’ll be making initial contact just to check if they are available that day, and for what times if they are, so I can coordinate the whole thing. If there is anything else I need to know, get with me ASAP. Also, where are we going to eat? I’ve never planned a trip like this, but I’m pretty sure we don’t need to be zigzagging back and forth across town (if we can help it). I kinda want to know all of the points on the map that we’re gonna hit. And how big is our group? I would like to let our hosts know how many people they will be dealing with.
That’s it for now. I’ll continue to update everyone as things develop.
Meeting this Thursday @ 9 am
Please show up a little early before Portfolio classes if you wish to participate in AIGA this semester. We need to know who all wants to be involved so we can plan trips, tours and lectures accordingly. We have some pretty neat trips planned that will hopefully give you the opportunity to show your portfolio at 3 different major markets. This is a great chance to see where your work stands in the design community, so please show up so we can get these things nailed down!!!
Minutes: Jan. 27th, 2010
Started: 2:05 p.m.
K.C trip – we need to know how many people are wanting to go ASAP. It’s still open whether it’s a one day or two day trip. We are currently looking at the 5th and 6th of March – so if you can go, let us know ASAP! We need a definite answer by next Friday so we can block rooms for that weekend. If you have any ideas of studios and places you want to see in KC, let us know as well! Currently we’re looking at a list of places including Hallmark and various motion graphics places.
We’re also in the process of scheduling studio tours that are in town. We looking at setting them up on Fridays again since that seems to work for everyone. If you can’t make it on Fridays, let us know so we can keep that in mind when we schedule tours!
Note that DSVC was cancelled this year. Jim and other faculty members are talking about still taking a couple days to go down there and touring a few studios, etc. Trips to Denver are still in the talks as well so if you’re interested in either of these trips, let us know your thoughts and ideas!
We want to start up coffee sales again soon. Tuesday and Thursday mornings is the current schedule so if any one can work that, let us know about that as well. Other ideas include benefit concerts to raise money for AIGA, collaborating with the Ulrich, etc. If you have any other ideas for fund raising email one of us! We’re open to new fund raising ideas!
Meeting times are bound to change. We’ll keep everyone updated about meeting times!
AIGA Spring Semester
Well since Roger has provided this great new forum for us to use, i thought i’d update on what AIGA is planning on accomplishing this semester. This is a big semester for a lot of us and we plan on doing quit a bit this semester that will provide a lot of feedback over our portfolio’s and different types of studios out there. We need to find a time for meetings have Either Wednesday @ 2 or Thursday @ 2
- First thing is the Coffee sale that we had going on the last two weeks of the fall semester. We made almost $100 and this was a pretty simple thing to do, so we thought of pursing this and having coffee available for sale at least twice a week every week. With this we could have a more reliable customer base that would return. So we need volunteers!! Right now we were thinking about Tuesday & Thursday mornings or any other that people are willing to work. The shift are from 7:30 till about 10 ish. It’s super simple and we really need people to work so we can have some money to bring in Seymour Schwast!! We’ll probably start it up in a couple weeks but stay tuned for details.
- Second, Seymour Schwast! this would be huge to pull off and we’re determined to make it happen. If we can bring in Schwast we could possible get people from KC, OKC and all around. If you don’t know who he is, you really need to check out his work and see how influential he has been to the design world over the last century. We’re always looking for help so if you want a chance to help out with this let me know.
- Third KC trip. We pushed the trip back to late February so we can have more options of studios. So if you have any Studios you’d like to see let us know! We also need a solid yes or no if you are serious about going. We plan on a two day trip, going up Friday and hitting as many studios as possible and coming back late Saturday after hopefully meeting with some of the AIGA professionals for a portfolio critique or more studio tours!! So again…. let us know!
-Fourth Denver. We we’re thinking of pretty much the same thing as the KC trip but maybe a 3 day trip and more studio tours and maybe meeting up with a college AIGA group out there and more professionals. So if your interested speak up!
-Fifth, DSVC. Same as the other but with a pretty impressive student conference. Maybe going down a day or two early and hitting some tours and then having the option of taking your portfolio down to get critique by professionals actually looking for positions.
So with all this going on, if we get this coffee sale up and running, people who work the stand will receive some money to help differ the cost of some of these trips. So if you can sacrifice a couple early morning hours you can save some money on these bad-a trips. We have alot more to cover so please…. come to the meetings, and speak up!!! I’ll post an update once we figure out meeting times, but for now plan on this coming Wednesday at 2pm. One week, BE THERE!!!
Kansas City Tour – Friday, Feb. 5th & Saturday Feb. 6th
Hello Everyone,
There is talk of a group trip up to Kansas City for some studio tours. Currently we are planning on going up on the 5th of Feb. On Saturday the 6th of Feb., we have 8 spots for a tour of the Boulevard Brewing Company @ 11am. If we think we will need more than eight spots than we will need to call sooner than later to get them. They are already filling up fast.
Besides that Boulevard tour we are hoping to visit as many studios as we can on Friday, enjoy the night out and maybe setup some tours for Saturday along with a visit to Hammer Press. Please reply or let me know a count as far as the tour, its not a must, we can all meet up later so please don’t feel like you have to.
Thanks,
Benjamin
